Jan 2021. Northeast Asia (primarily mainland China) accounted for most of the world capacity in 2020, driven by the growth of nylon in the country, which drives the demand for caprolactam and adipic acid. The cyclohexanol/cyclohexanone mixture used for adipic acid manufacture is referred to as KA oil (for ketone-alcohol). Mainland China, Japan, and Taiwan are the largest uncoupled cyclohexanol/cyclohexanone producers. Western Europe had the second largest capacity in 2020, with local production sufficient to cater to domestic demand.
