Nov 2021. Surfactants are a very important group of chemicals with many applications in the home and personal care markets as well as industrial and institutional sectors. Surfactants have been at the forefront of the battle against the COVID-19 virus, supporting hygiene in home and institutional applications and will continue to play an important role as hygiene concerns persist. The global market for surfactants in 2021 is estimated to reach 17.6 million metric tons (100% basis) with a value of $40.7 billion, having witnessed a turbulent couple of years because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The situation remains dynamic, but as economies rebound and social and working practices slowly adjust to the new normal, surfactants will continue to be an important part of the recovery and are expected to show attractive growth rates over the next five years, especially in developing economies.
